The joy expressed by Roshan Krishnan and Shalini Sai Prasad, students of Delhi Public School (Bangalore East) and winners at the regional final of The Hindu Young World Quiz 2011 held at Chowdiah Memorial Hall, was similar to when parents gift toys. Both couldn't hide their happiness and they were sporting a broad smile. They not only became richer by Rs. 15,000 but also won the big ticket to participate in the Grand Finale at Thiruvananthapuram on November 14.

“I am so thrilled…I have no words to express myself. I am preparing for a national level examination and I was referring many books and that really helped me to do well at this event,” said Shalini, a student of Std VIII. The only girl-boy duo to reach the final round of the competition complemented each other well to accomplish what their teachers had expected from them. “I am in Std IX and she is in Std VIII. Our teachers told us to form a team as she is good in literature, history and India-specific information, while my interests are in current affairs, sports and music,” said Roshan.

The team from Padma Sheshadri Bala Bhavan Learning Leadership Academy (PSBB LLA) of Karan Rao and Partha. S. Kadambi., took the first-runner up place and received a cash prize of Rs. 12,000. After the preliminary written round, six teams qualified for the final round on stage. The DPS (South) team of Ishan Jha and Apareet Alladi secured the second runner-up place. They were given a cash prize of Rs. 10,000. Two teams from Bishop Cotton Boys' School reached the final round of the competition. They took the fourth and sixth places, while the team from AECS Magnolia Maaruti Public School finished fifth. The teams that took fourth, fifth and sixth positions received a cash prize of Rs. 2,000 each. All the winners received trophies and certificates from The Hindu and goodies from sponsors.

Actor and danseuse Lakshmi Gopalaswamy gave away the prizes to the winners. Quizmaster V. V. Ramanan hosted the show.
