The 12th edition of The Hindu Young World Quiz competition started not only on an auspicious note but was quintessentially region-specific, with a question to name the progeny of Malayadhwaja Pandian. Quiz Master V.V. Ramanan and his set of interesting questions had the crowd focused.

What does a Kymatologist do? If you are buying a Mink Coat from Minsk, which country are you in? These, just a sample of the many questions he asked. Of course, no school quiz is complete without questions on the Harry Potter series. This edition was no exception.

One thing that was conspicuous this year was the absence of girls among the top 12 who made it to the regional finals. In a closely fought tussle of minds, K.R. Vinodh and Siddharth Rao Jharkeswar of Jeevana School, Madurai, held their nerves to beat defending finalists K. Dinu Aravind and P. Guru Prasanna of TVS Matric H.S. School (Team 2).

The chief guest, D. Sathyaprakash, an upcoming singing talent popular on television, rendered some foot tapping numbers from the recent films and also sang a classical song much to the delight of the audience.

The highlights of this edition included the highest ever registration of 511 teams in the regional round. More number of teams from Tirunelveli district participated and was well represented in the regional finals.
