It had been an exceedingly long day, and the traffic was lurching through Banjara Hills towards an equally tired Jubilee Hills. So when we came across Tea Halt in its brightly-lit glory, I had to pull over, simply because I needed a cup of hot tea and some nibbles.
- What Tea kiosk and eatery
- USP variety of teas
- Opening hours 9am - 11pm, daily
Tea Halt began its journey in 2009 in its home hub of Delhi. Now it’s come to the chai-fickle city of Hyderabad, the brand has been put to the test. And Tea Halt has chosen the further burgeoning centre of Jubilee Hills as its nest — where Tom Yum Yum, Upsara, Spicy Pitara and Van Lavino are drawing in their fair share of hungry Hyderabadis.
Walking into the space, I’m confounded by the amalgam aromas of teas — with masala and without— melded with the distinct noses of pizzas and other snacks. A large wall with simple typography ‘tea and conversations solve everything’ catches the eye of every visitor, setting an easy social mood. The al fresco section overlooks the bustling flurry of the area, giving you a moment to pause and reflect on everything edible before you.
Array for days
Tea Halt offers over seven different lots of teas to please any patron’s palate; be it the gently wafting leaf teas or the quintessential Irani chais. Having visited the place solo like the true social butterfly I am, I couldn’t try everything though my second visit warranted a couple of friends coming along.
Immediate favourites were the Adrak Tulsi with its surprisingly pleasant aftertaste, as well as the Special Masala. For the hotter days, desi coolers are recommended; the Kulhad lassi and Masala lemonade being winners in my book. Tea Halt explains their teas are sourced globally, so imagine your palate going on a decent trip when you’re seated in one spot! Some varieties are served in clay cups, adhering to the timeless adage that tea is best served as nature intended.
And of course, not everyone is into tea — yes, that’s a thing — so look to their iced teas and staple coffee menu.
To complement the beverage experience are a spectrum of meals such as cheese-dripping pizzas, crunchy garlic bread and fresh pastas, all to ensure you leave Tea Halt with a full stomach and a happy heart... and some tea to-go, because sharing is caring.
