Remember when mum would hand you a couple of bucks and ask you to to walk down to the neighbourhood bakery and pick up a loaf of freshly baked bread?

Oh, the tantalising aroma and soft pillowiness of bread that has just been pulled out of the oven. Wouldn’t you just love to butter equally fresh loaves of bread for breakfast even now? Turns out you can, with OMBC Daily.

A new initiative by Old Madras Baking Company (OMBC), one can now subscribe to freshly baked bread being delivered to your doorstep at a frequency of your choice. Says Sweta Garapati, manager, marketing and business development at OMBC, “It’s basically a subscription model to receive fresh bread at home. The idea came about from the founder’s dream to make freshly baked bread easily available. People can choose to have the bread delivered either once, twice or thrice weekly. We currently offer a monthly subscription.”

Orders are finalised by 4 pm and the bread is baked accordingly the next morning, before being delivered between 6 am and 9 am. Currently, OMBC offers this delivery within a five kilometre radius from each of their stores (they have seven stores across the city as of now).

To subscribe, users need to log on to their website (www.ombc.in) and fill in the requisite details that appear under the OMBC Daily section on the top right corner of the Home page. “We do our first delivery in organic cotton bags, which we encourage subscribers to reuse. The idea is they hang them on their doors ahead of delivery, much like they would for milk or newspaper, and we will drop the fresh bread in it,” says Garapati, adding that so far they’ve had 95 registrations.

While the breads are priced just as much as they are at stores, an extra ₹ 20 is charged for each delivery. “That is the basic delivery charge we levy. Bread loaves are priced at ₹ 60 and upwards, with gluten free bread being priced at ₹ 150. Users can choose to have different breads delivered each time, they just need to update their choice online by 4 pm. We also offer 12 different combinations such as continental breakfast and Parisian breakfast with a combination of breads and croissants. These are priced between ₹ 100 to ₹ 190,” says Garapati.

Users can pay for a month and resubscribe the following month. And one can also pause or edit their subscription, modify location, type of bread and delivery frequency.
