Finding a quiet, relaxed place to have a meal in the centre of the city is a bit of a task. But one such space which is removed from the chaos of the urban sprawl despite being located smack in the middle of it is the Polo Club bar at The Oberoi Bengaluru.
With its semi open-air set-up overlooked by the imposing façade of the hotel and the towering raintree on its grounds, The Polo Club scores high on the ambience front. Add the fact that the hotel’s Global Grills promotion is back to shake up the menu a little, and the prospect becomes even more appealing.
Sitting beside the space demarcated for the grill, with the sound of the sizzle, the aroma of succulence and an artisanal burratta for company is the best way to start off a meal. Throw in a beer or wine and the taste buds are suitably primed.
Clearly, non-vegetarians have more options, but vegetarians have their share of things to try, like the barbecued tofu or the American corn with paprika butter.
For everyone else, the excellent seafood options are a good place to start, with Cochin king prawns and the Arabian Sea lobster offering up a good balance of tender innards with a side of crunch. For a change in flavour, the Norwegian salmon and Asian seabass round off the seafood menu.
On the meat side,the classic tenderloin is one of the must haves, providing a delicious juicy texture to satiate the most aggressive hunger pangs.
The Polo Club's extensive bar means connoisseurs can pair their meats with selections from a wide variety of Indian and foreign beers and wines.
After a particularly hearty meal, a little chocolate is always good for the stomach and soul, and the chocolate brownie with a helping of home made vanilla bean ice cream was just what the doctor ordered. There is the option of a raspberry cheesecake as well.
The Global Grills festival is a great reason for lovers of grilled meats to make their way over to The Oberoi. Just make sure to take along some good company, as nothing rounds off a filling meal with a view better than a good conversation.
