Fine eaters of the realm

The universe of the popular Game Of Thrones was recreated at the Big Brewsky in Sarjapur road recently

What do the characters in Game Of Thrones eat? In seven years spent watching more than 70 hours of the series, I could not remember anything apart from the occasional pies, some fruits, and cold meats. Unlike the other cult TV show Breaking Bad , GOT was all about drinking wine, battles and playing politics. Food did not seem to play a major role in proceedings. These were the thoughts in my head as I went to the Game Of Thrones themed Dragon Glass dinner at Sarjapur road recently.

Created by Chef Saby and his team, the setting looked perfect, much like a dining scene from the series with a variety of cold meats, bread and cheeses and pastries set out in long plates on a huge table. A rabbit stew was being cooked by the side. A roast pig also occupied place of pride on the table. The only source of light was from candles that were placed across the table. Chef Saby pointed out, " We wanted to get the dark medieval setting. The menu was created in a similar fashion. We have focussed on getting cold cuts of meats, and altered the cooking styles of many of the meat dishes. We have a roast pig, a suckling pig in apple sauce and a rabbit dish that will be the highlights of the meals. Much like the medieval times, most of these dishes will be placed on the table in special plates. We have tried to recreate the atmosphere from the series.”

As we sat down for dinner, with music playing in the background, it did feel like a scene from a GOT wedding party. However, since weddings in GOT are seldom happy occasions, we decided to skip the thought and focus on the food.

We sampled a few of the breads with the cheeses and a glass of wine, shaped like the glasses that Tryion Lannister used to drink numerous glasses of wine from in the earlier seasons.

We thoroughly enjoyed the innovatively named Tommen Crown Roast — a garnished and roasted lamb rack. It scored points on both presentation and taste. The soup, a rather interesting twin combination of pumpkin and beetroot was also quite appetizing and rejuvenating.

The champion of the dishes was, without doubt, Hunter's game, the stewed rabbit that went very well with the black rice on offer.

If the food served had a chance to stake a claim to the iron throne, the rabbit dish would win hands down. There were also a variety of pies, a massive cold meats collection, and desserts. With all the talk of the future of Game Of Thrones series on the table, I felt like a part of the armies getting ready to battle the night king and his minions and hoped that as the season concludes, it is not the night king who emerges triumphant
