ith all its rapid expansion and the Metro in the making, Hyderabad isn’t new to changing landscapes.Years back when the foot over bridge was erected near HPS at Begumpet, the GHMC had grand plans of transforming the footpath into a walker’s paradise, complete with food stalls to give the city it’s very own Singapore-style eat street. The Metro put paid to all those plans. But Hyderabadis have found a new destination to indulge their food cravings in. Right on the road.
It’s Jubilee Hills Road no 36 which is undergoing a thematic makeover. At least that’s how it seems with the number of restaurants mushrooming in the area. More than two eateries have come up in each business complex that dot a part of the road, all happily co-existing within a few yards of each other. , Making a choice among the eateries can be tough, but the competition to stay on top of the ‘food chain,’ is a delight for food lovers here.

One obvious reason for the growing number of restaurants here is the Metro rail station which is coming up in the vicinity. Once the Metro becomes operational, it will be a matter of just a hop skip and jump for anyone in the city to wine and dine here according to one’s preferred choice of cuisine and budget.
A little ahead of the Jubilee Hills check post, beginning from the bend in the road which leads to Kavuri hills and Madhapur, the road turns into an eat street. What makes it even easier for diners to navigate is the fact that until now, all the eateries have come up on the same side of the road.
There are also road side eateries where you can grab a shawarma, a packet of biryani or a cup of Irani chai with a puff. There are dessert places as well. Walk ahead and the choices gradually increases to include themed restaurants, micro breweries, grill places, coffee houses and gourmet restaurants. One can enjoy from molecular gastronomy, stylish Indian fare, coffee shops to a formal Indian menu.

What’s street food without chaat and ice cream? You also have these options; the most crowded dessert place in this area is the ice cream shop that sells naturally flavoured fruit ice creams.
The choice doesn’t stop here; as night falls, the search gradually leads diners to their favourite bandis . Steamed corn is lapped up without questions of what quality water it is immersed in, and lingering aroma of the bread omelette lures you to try it . Its really quite simple— two untoasted bread slices are slapped on the undercooked part of the omelette and then cooked face down with an extra helping of butter. There is also the other favourite — Maggi and egg.
Clearly there’s something delish for every palate and every purse. What are you waiting for?
