Have you permed your hair in the last six months? Highlighted it? I click ‘No, Never’…and move on to next set of questions on the Pro-Fibre app. I am required to fill in a questionnaire before the parlour (Green Trends) tells me what is the best option for my hair. Level 1 Damage is the prognosis and the recommended treatment is Rectify range of Loreal’s Pro-Fibre treatment.
Hair expert Sudarshan examines my scalp. He pulls at a strand to check for strength, elasticity, and to see how porous it is. He explains the life cycle of the hair (growth, resting and falling phases), and says, “We are doing a basic treatment that will strengthen the hair fibres and take away the dullness. The products penetrate the hair fibres deeply. A home care kit ensures that the results stay longer. It gets better with every wash,” he assures me.
The Restore range tackles hair that is damaged from excessive chemical treatment like colouring or just age. Extremely damaged hair can be treated with their Reconstruct range. “The components of this product reconstructs and strengthens the cuticle. The conditioner brings a positive energy to the hair by eliminating damage and fuzziness,” he adds.
As for hair care tips, he says, switch to a professional shampoo and conditioner ( some of the pH levels of shampoos available off the shelves at departmental stores come with a pH of 4.5, the level that is seen in detergents used for washing clothes). And, do not apply oil on the hair when you step out. That attracts dust and leads to dandruff and dryness.
After two rounds of shampooing, an exotic smelling concentrate is massaged into my hair, and then a masque which works as a conditioner. And the fabulous smell of vanilla lingered on for days after.
