It's only been three days, but at the Cannes Film Festival this year, the red carpet has started grabbing more eyeballs than the movies. Considered the holy grail of fashion, an appearance here is guaranteed to make a star out of anyone. Hit or miss, your outfit will get the paparazzi clicking and, hey, no such thing as bad publicity, right? Here's our pick of four looks that seem to be making waves.
Deepika Padukone
All eyes have been on the Indian beauty as she makes her Cannes debut with everyone specualting about whether she can top India's couture queen Sonam Kapoor, or if she'll play it safe like Aishwarya Rai. With London-based stylist Elizabeth Saltzmann at her side thought, the newest Indian export seems to have hit the mark in this bottle green Brandon Maxwell gown with a thigh high slit. Did she overdo it thought, with the matching green shoes and matching green eyeshadow? Maybe.
Bella Hadid
In a pale-pink Alexandre Vauthier dress at the Opening Gala of the festival, the other Hadid sister stunned onlookers. They also got a bit more than they bargained for when a minor wardrobe malfunction left the model blushing, but of course, she handled it with grace. The figure-hugging blush-toned dress marked the emergence of another "champagne-hued" dress this year - Emily Ratajkowski, Elle Fanning and many more chose to keep it subtle in pastel shades.
Marion Cotillard
New mom Marion Cotillard took it easy in a loose-fitting white maxidress teamed with ruffled jeans for a photocall of her film Ismael's Ghost. A part of Belgian designer Glenn Martens' label Y/Project's fall collection, even retaining the same shoes from the runway look. The T-shirt dress brought some edge to the otherwise predictably glamorous looks Cotillard has been known for, although some have called it an extension of her maternity wardrobe. Either way, we loved the fashion-forward look.
