You can be a splash of vivacious, joyous colour on your wedding day. The new collections by Anju Modi and Karuna Khaitan is the stuff wedding dreams are made of.

Anju’s Picture Perfect bridal collection is breathtaking, with combinations of gorgeous lehengas in vibrant red, orange, purple and hot pink adorned with antique Benarasi brocade work, sequins and intricate embroidery, matched with delicate cholis, or corset blouses and finished with vivacious dupattas.

Explaining where she got her inspiration for the collection, Anju says, “It is based on Bengali literature. There is a subtle hint of woman power, which has been made more contemporary.”

Priced at a staggering Rs. 1 lakh approximately for each set, Anju’s creations are sold in complete sets. Different colours, textures and fabrics come together to create a unique one-of-a-kind ensemble, fitting for a bride on her wedding day.

“People don’t want typical anarkalis and lehengas anymore. They are expecting something different, so I’ve created layered garments with uneven hemlines in skirts and contemporary dress-like lehengas,” she says describing some of her pieces.

In contrast to Anju’s collection, Karuna’s Wild Orchid collection is not meant to be just for the bride, but for her friends, and family. The chic, light lehengas, in bright colours, with refined beading and simple embroidery seem deceptively simple and understated at first glance, but are perfect for the pre-wedding celebrations like mehendi ceremonies, sangeets, weddings, receptions and even Deepavali celebrations. “This collection is a little different; it has a lot of pinks, purples, blues and whites in fabrics like georgette, chiffon and net,” says Karuna.

Much easier on the pocket, each of the pieces in the Wild Orchid collection is priced individually, allowing for a mix and match of lehengas, cholis and dupattas. The lehengas, adorned with brocade and sequin work, can be matched with sari blouses, tie up blouses and Karuna’s extremely popular tissue blouses. The completed set will cost approximately Rs. 15,000, with sizes available in each piece.

Both Anju Modi’s Picture Perfect bridal collection and Karuna Khaitan’s Wild Orchid collection are available at Mogra at The Leela Palace Hotel, Airport Road.
