A collection fit for queens awaits Coimbatoreans at the Paheli exhibition
Gleaming white sapphires, carved coral roses that are nothing short of astounding and grand necklaces that look like something Rani Padmini would wear for a special day at the durbar – Paheli, Art Karat's jewellery collection is a stunner, indeed. Inspired by traditional Rajasthani jewellery, the Paheli Collection also has a contemporary edge to it.
The collection has been designed by Asha Kamal Modi, whose jewellery is said to have been showcased in Bollywood blockbusters such as Devdas and Monsoon wedding. At first glance, it's the Aahana necklace that catches one's eye. It is a riot of white sapphires and rubies and is easily one of the highlights of the show.
“This necklace was worn by Aishwarya Rai in the movie Devdas,” says Rishi, senior executive. “Every piece of jewellery at Art Karat is handcrafted with silver and coated with 22K or 24K gold,” he adds. If the Satvi necklace with its bunch of gold beads, the Shahad necklace with its translucent drops of green Onyx and the Lavanya necklace with the navaratna spell royalty, the Zurii and Zina necklaces exude Victorian class. There is also simple sophestication with Paheli's collection of studs and strands of pearls and raw rubies with elegant pendants. Asha Kamal Modi has fused different styles of jewellery, making her collection unique in its own way. For instance, who's ever heard of temple jewellery with Victorian finish? Or, a strand of rudraksha with a Victorian pendant? There are bangles embedded with tiny fresh water pearls, peacock jhumkas, hand-painted pendants, earrings inlaid with flat mother of pearl, strands of coral and turquoise beads with drop-dead-gorgeous pendants, tikkas and rings with kundan work, chokers and necklaces named after queens and more. The Paheli collection is a mix of all things exquisite. The jewellery show is on at Hotel City Tower till August 1. Prices go upwards from Rs.2,000.
