When artists create, they need a platform to present. In Chennai, Dimple’s Art Gallery is now serving as a new platform to encourage artists young and old to share their work with the world. The gallery, which was established only seven months ago, has just launched its fourth show entitled “FUSIONS”. The show features the exclusive works of 12 artists from around the city, with the pieces covering a wide range of themes and media.

Walking around the gallery, one cannot help but be struck by just how diverse the pieces are. The collection including everything from abstracts to animals, human figures, and landscapes.

There are paintings of stormy waves, frogs, traditional Indian women, stylised human figures, and abstract constructions.

Each artist’s unique style is clearly expressed in their work, but the deeper meaning behind their pieces is not always absolute or apparent. One of the artists on display, Raju Durshettiwar, says that decoding the art is “entirely up to them [the public].”

Dimple Jain, the owner of Dimple’s Art Gallery says that the goal of the exhibition was a simple one: she wanted to support promising artists in the city. “I’m not only looking for well-known artists but also local, upcoming artists. I want to bring them to my gallery and display them so they can reach higher levels. Well-known artists are already established. My main goal was to focus on the artists who don’t have a big platform, and showcase their work,” she explains.

She also adds that the relationship between the gallery and the artists is not just a one-way street. The artists, in turn, support the gallery.

She states, “my gallery is also a new gallery. So for people to come to know the gallery itself, these artists are important.” As for the artists themselves, they are incredibly pleased to have the opportunity to display their work in this show.

One of the artists, Manisha Raju, says, “I’m really happy, first of all, because the space is really good. This is my first time displaying my work in this gallery. Usually, when there is an opening, only a set crowd comes. This time I’m very happy to see such a young crowd.”

In fact, not only Raj, but a lot of the other artists, said that they are thrilled to see such a a youthful audience at the show’s opening night. They are right. The swarming room was filled with engaged young adults gathered in clusters around paintingsdiscussing the art they saw before them.
