“Anyone can apply a cream on their skin or hair. But, it takes a professional to choose the right product that suits you,” says Sonali Patel. She shows me around her newly-opened unisex beauty salon, a franchise of Studio Profile, that she and her husband Kamalesh run. That is the reason, says Sonali, that she emphasises on a well-trained team that has thorough product knowledge, both in theory and practical skills.
A well-trained team
The team at the salon is from Chennai that has been trained at the Studio Profile Training Academy. Reassured, I decide to go in for a facial. The salon offers exclusive services that use Skin Miracle and Thalgo products.
Sonali recommends a skin whitening facial for my weary skin. And, then the beauty expert Geetanjali Pradhan takes over. For the next hour she pampers my skin. My face is cleansed, scrubbed, exfoliated and de-tanned. Serums are applied and I am treated to a refreshing massage.
I emerge from the experience with a glow like never before. My face is bright, has an even skin tone and feels supple.
Hair care services are also a speciality of this salon. “Hair strengthening controls hair breakages and hair fall. It can be done quickly as you get your hair cut,” explains Sonali.
While the protein and keratin treatment add strength and shine to the tresses, a hair spa takes care of the scalp, dandruff… “ Regular maintenance once a month with a keratin treatment is important for the health of hair,” she says.
There are special rituals with L’Oreal’s new mythic oil and its new colouring technique called Balayage. “It is a colouring technique to create sun-kissed, natural-looking highlights,” explains Sonali. She says people are open to experimenting with hair colours and short hair cuts now. “ They try out different styles and treatments to sport a different look. College students as well as middle aged women are keen on hair highlights.” There is also the French Brown hair colour technique one could try.

Kamalesh, who works with Studio Profile in Chennai, is a hair stylist trained in London and Singapore. Says Sonali,“I love this industry. I get to do something creating every day. When the client is happy with my work, it makes me feel so good.”
