Advocate Ravikumar's desire to get his daughter married in one of the highest places in Tamil Nadu comes true
With Sunday being an auspicious day, the hills of the Nilgiris were alive with the sound of music and weddings were a common sight. However a few in this hill station were aware that history of sorts was created with a couple from the plains exchanging weddings vows atop Doddabetta Peak at the crack of dawn.
Enquiries revealed that Ravikumar, a Sathyamangalam-based advocate had nurtured a desire to get his daughter Ilanthendral (23), also a lawyer, married in one of the highest places in Tamil Nadu.
With the girl also looking forward to taking the plunge in such a place, Doddabetta (meaning Big Mountain, the second tallest peak (8,640 feet) south of the Vindhyas) had been chosen soon after her engagement to Sathyamoorthy (26) of Annur, a post graduate in Business Administration working in a private company.
Accordingly permission was obtained from the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) which maintains the facilities at Doddabetta.
Oblivious to the pre-dawn nippy conditions, relatives and well-wishers of the two families trooped to the peak and completed all the formalities including a wedding feast, before the scenic spot was thrown open for tourists.
Mr. Ravikumar said that he had always been fascinated with heights and giving away his daughter on the top of Doddabetta had given him immense pleasure. Averring that he believed in high thinking and simple living, Ravikumar who is a functionary of the Kongu Ilaignar Peravai said that the ceremony at such a place had given him the feeling of being on cloud nine.
TTDC sources said that Doddabetta had not witnessed such an event earlier.
