Visions of Nature

CHITRAM ART Gallery is presenting a different exhibition this time.

Nor are the exhibits available for sale.

The two-day exhibition features photographs selected from the photography competition organised by the Kochi Refineries Limited (KRL).

Obviously, the theme for the competition was Nature and its different moods.

Going by the photographs that have been presented at the exhibition, quite a number of sunsets and sunrises might have come up for the competition.

For, there are at least twenty of them on display.

The exhibition titled Pakriti has more than 60 photographs, selected from about 200 entries.

However, quite a few of them appeared cliched.

The topper in the competition, K. J. Vincent from Thrissur has captured a moment from routine village life, set against the backdrop of light from the rising sun.

Mr. Vincent received Rs. 7,000 and a citation.

K. S. Sajan from Thiruvananthapuram and A. N. Ajayakumar from Cherai won second and third prizes respectively. Sushaman Kadavil, Jayaprakash Komath, Rajesh Nattika, Vincent Monalisa, J. C. Cherpu and Kudianmala Gopalan were given consolation prizes.

KRL decided to organise this competition to ''celebrate different moods of Nature,'' in connection with the Oil Conservation Fortnight programme.

Even though their intention was good, the organisers could have perhaps have done with a more creative range of responses.

But then, the idea of this exhibition is to motivate others to ``live a life rooted in the goodness and energy of Nature''.

Hope the exhibition succeeds in it.
