A call centre is a central place where an organisation attends to customer and other telephone calls. Call centres may be voice and/or internet based one. Typically, a call centre receives a considerable volume of calls, screen them and forward those to someone qualified to handle. However, the core fundamentals of a making a call (via phone, e-mail, website, or fax) to a centre (point, area. person or thing) will remain un-changed. Call centre, otherwise called as integrated contact centres or customer interaction centres, operate on near identical principles of meeting customer needs in real time and often mean the same.
BPO stands for Business Process Outsourcing. Major corporations in the US and Europe outsource their back office operations to India to save costs. For example, certain companies maintain their employee payroll in India. All customer interaction services including call centres are a part of BPO.
