Mass marriages of 27 Sikh couples from various parts of the State was performed on Sunday at the Gurudwara Saheb Barambala, Sikh Chawni, Attapur, and it was attended by large number people from the community.

Apart from couples hailing from Hyderabad, there were also couples from Karimnagar, Hanamkonda, Nizamabad, Adilabad, Warangal districts and a few from other States who got married at the ‘Samuhik Vivaha Samagam’ (mass marriage) programme. Various Gurudwara committees and a few individuals presented household articles to the newly married couples.

A colourful ‘baraat’ of bridegrooms on horses was taken out from the Asha Singh Bagh Gurudwara, Sikh Chawni to Gurudwara Barambala Saheb following which the marriages were solemnised.

The Minorities Welfare Department also extended financial support to each couple and cheques were handed over to them. The managing committee of Gurudwara Saheb Barambala , Attapur, supervised the programme, a press release said.

The Prabhandak Committee made all arrangements, including accommodation facilities, and the ‘Guru-ka-Langar’ (breakfast, lunch and dinner etc).
