The all new Road-inator

When I think of my hometown Marthandam (Kanyakumari District), all that comes to mind is traffic jams and potholes. I would like to invent a new ‘Road-inator’ which would solve this issue. The Road-inator would be like a road-roller but would produce the tar by itself. I would let it drive through the city once in a month at midnight because the traffic would be less only by that time.  Thus you have a new road every month. And I haven’t forgotten about the environment! The tar would be made from the plastics produced within the city itself and the exhausts would have catalytic converters and thus it’s good for the city and the earth too.

Auto waste segregration

I propose an e-waste managing system. It comprises a big processing unit which will identify and categorise which type of waste it is. Then the deposited waste material will move towards different shelf of the system. Once it is at the suitable shelf the processing unit will work on it. For example, biodegradable wastes will crushed into farm products. At the other end, waste like plastic will be get collected. Also, the processing system will have an alarm system which alerts the authorities to people throwing wastes on the roadside.

Robocops

My city is Bijapur, no doubt a historical place, but the citizens get stranded in the traffic for several hours. When it rains the condition is worse. I feel there should be regularisation of traffic. I would like to install robots at those nooks where jams are rampant. These robots control the traffic and trace out the people who flout the rules. I will install radar with wi-fi provision so that it locates the traffic jams and streamlines the vehicles and riders/drivers by giving regular instructions.

Smarter streetlights

Usually, I go for a walk with my father along the Chockanpudur Lake Bund Road. My heart bleeds to see streets lights glowing till 7 a.m. wasting the power of the nation.

At times, I think of fixing a photovoltaic cell to the top of the street light so that when the beam of ray falls on the photovoltaic cell it should switch off the street lights to save electricity.

Hidden cameras

One major problem in my city is ensuring that everyone follows driving rules. To handle this problem, at the distance of every 100m, cameras which will be camouflaged into their background can be placed. These cameras will send live data every 30 minutes to the nearest police station. Then the police can easily nab persons breaking traffic laws.

Trash tunnel

I would construct a tunnel for trash deposition. There will be no exit but only a plugged entrance. A park will be built above the passage in which a secret trap-door to the tunnel will be placed, so that the citizens can deposit refuse whenever they wish. I will also devise a solution that will liquefy waste material, convert them into compost and make room for more rubbish and that which also eliminates the reek of garbage.

Automated car parking system

Biggest challenge we face now a days in Ernakulam city is congested traffic and lack of parking space in the city. An automated car parking system (APS) can minimise the area and/or volume required for parking cars like a multi-story parking garage. An APS provides parking for cars on multiple levels stacked vertically to maximise the number of parking spaces while minimising land usage. The APS, however, utilises a mechanical system to transport cars to and from parking spaces in order to eliminate much of the space wasted in a multi-story parking garage.

Replanting vehicles

In our city, people cut entire trees that obstruct their houses, instead of cutting only the extra branches or the dried branches. I feel that if trees irritate them so much, the corporation should bring in vehicles which help in the replanting of trees so that the trees won't be wasted or killed.

Bare basics

In Coimbatore, to solve the problem of open drainage we need some pipes, cement lids, and some cement. We need cement lids to cover the drainage so that there is no bad smell on the streets. We need cement to hold the cement lids so that no person can fall into the drainage.

A water disinfection indicator

In our area the water seems to be contaminated with dirt during some seasons. There are many ways to  treat, filter, and distill water, but when basic infrastructure is not there, an ordinary clear plastic bottle can suffice. What about a Water Disinfection Indicator which could detect any impurities on it and remove it instantly. It can be used in bottles to detect it. If water then is clean then it could save millions of people especially children under the age of 5.
