Harrison runs fastest 100m hurdles in 28 years

Kendra Harrison equalled the second-fastest women’s 100m hurdles ever run as she blitzed through in 12.24 seconds at the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League meeting on Saturday.

Her performance was so good that it eclipsed Justin Gatlin’s win. Gatlin led a strong field and claimed victory in the 100m race with a wind-assisted 9.88 seconds.

Saina sets her eyes on Indonesia Open

While the majority of Indians have decided to skip the Indonesia Open either due to injury or training, Saina Nehwal would be hoping to clinch her first title this year when she starts her campaign on Tuesday. She comes after some strong performances in the recently concluded Uber Cup, and would look to improve further.

Sameer Verma is the only Indian competing in the men’s singles section.

BASKETBALL

Warriors win Game 6 108-101

Golden State Warriors avoided NBA playoff elimination and forced Game 7 with a 108-101 victory over Oklahoma City Thunder.

The win away at Oklahoma City means that the two sides will be playing for a place in the finals against Cleveland Cavaliers at Oakland on Monday.

Klay Thompson, who had a career playoff high 41 points, scored a one-game playoff record of 11 3-pointers. MVP Stephen Curry added 29 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists as the Warriors staged a fourth-quarter comeback to keep the series alive.

CRICKET

Ali glad to repay faith with runs

England’s Moeen Ali is happy that he could repay the faith on him with a valuable knock in the second Test against Sri Lanka.

Ali’s 155 went a long way towards ensuring another strong total as England ended their first innings at 498 for nine declared. By the end of play on Saturday, they had the visitors firmly on the mat as Sri Lanka once again collapsed, this time to 91 for eight at stumps on day two.

FOOTBALL

Real Madrid beat Atletico on penalties in Champions League finals

The second Madrid derby in three years in the final of Champions League once again finished in Real Madrid’s favour, as they won 5-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw following extra time.

Sergio Ramos scored the opener for Real in the 15th minute and Atletico equalised in the 79th through substitute Yannick Carrasco.

Missed penalties came to haunt Atletico this time around… first Antoine Griezmann’s missed chance moments into the second half and then Juanfran’s during the shootout, which came off the post. Cristiano Ronaldo gave it the finishing touch, scoring the final penalty that handed Real Madrid a record 11th European crown.

SQUASH

Gaultier, Massaro win PSA World Series finals

Gregory Gaultier defeated Cameron Pilley 11-4, 11-5, 8-11, 11-6 to win the men’s title in the PSA World Series finals. In the women’s section, Laura Massaro required a hard-fought 9-11, 11-6, 5-11, 12-10, 11-5 victory against Raneem El Welily to claim the title.

TENNIS

Aggressive Muguruza downs Kuznetsova

Fourth seed Garbine Muguruza was at her aggressive best as she downed former champion Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-3 6-4 to book a place in the quarterfinals of the French Open on Sunday.

On Saturday, the Williams sisters accounted for French opposition in their respective games and men’s sixth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was forced to retire. Richard Gasquet is now the last French hope left in the tournament.
