The right place and the right time beckoned French pole vaulter Renaud Lavillenie and he did not look back. In just a week’s time (Feb 21) it would be 21 years since Sergei Bubka created his indoor world record jump of 6.15 meters. But that was not to be so. On February 15, Renaud Lavillenie eclipsed the Ukrainian’s indoor record by clearing 6.16 m in a clean jump. The baton was finally passed on and was achieved at Bubka’s hometown Donetsk, watched by the legend himself. On the other end, Jamaica’s Veronica Campbell Brown, one of the athletes caught in the doping scandal last year, was given an all clear by the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) last month.
