Kumble appointed as India’s coach

India’s highest Test wicket taker Anil Kumble was on Thursday appointed as India’s head coach for the next one year, a role that he termed as a great honour.

Kumble has stated that he will be like an elder brother to the players, keeping the players first and always staying in the background.

FOOTBALL

Euro 2016 enters last 16 phase

Two weeks since the start of the tournament, Euro 2016 enters the knockout stages with 16 teams left in the tournament. While the eight teams in the bottom half of the draw have won 11 World Cups and nine European championships between them, those in the top half haven’t won a single major tournament.

Saturday’s matches include Switzerland taking on Poland, Wales facing fellow British nation Northern Ireland and Croatia squaring off with Ronaldo’s Portugal.

Copa America Centenario, meanwhile, has been a fairly convincing show this time around with crowd figures and star names matching those at Euro 2016.
