Eight months into his job as the successor of Sir Alex Ferguson, David Moyes was facing all the wrong questions. In fact, United faithfuls have begun to wonder if he is actually "The Chosen One".
Trailing 2-0 from the first leg, the pressure on Moyes was apparent. It didn't help when Arsenal loanee Joel Campbell went close in the second minute for Olympiacos.
Slowly though, things began to change. Ryan Giggs, on his first start since late January, picked out Wayne Rooney, who headed against the foot of the post, after 18 minutes.
Giggs was involved again in the build up to the penalty. He picked out Robin van Persie, this time with a angled delivery, and the Dutchman was pushed over by Jose Holebas, left.
van Persie had no trouble in converting the ensuing penalty. United were back in this one. The tie stood 2-1 in Olympiacos favour, 25 minutes into the second leg.
With a goal against their name, they had everything to play for. And they wanted to waste no time, as is evident from this picture.
With United's players pressing constantly, the risk of a counter attack was always on. David de Gea, centre, kept United in the tie with a crucial double save. First he parried David Fuster's header and then kept out Alejandro Dominquez's follow-up strike.
Deep into stoppage time in the first half, RvP scored again. Giggs found Rooney, right, with a flighted pass. Rooney crossed it low for van Persie, who made it 2-0. At the half time break, the tie was on the balance.
Seven minutes into the second half, United were leading the tie for the first time. This free kick from van Persie put them ahead 3-2.
Heading into the final minutes of the game, van Persie suffered an apparent leg injury and had to be stretchered off. United, though, held on to their lead to make their passage safely into the Champions League quarter-finals.
