Semenya emerges as early Olympic favourite in 800m

South African Caster Semenya clocked her second stand-out result of the Olympic year, completing the women’s 800m race in a time of 1 minute 58.26 seconds at the Doha Diamond League on Friday.

What’s more, Semenya went on to state that she hadn’t pushed herself through the race, throwing out a warning to others eyeing gold in the event.

The meeting was otherwise dominated by Kenyans and Americans, including the fastest women’s 100m of 2016 – a time of 10.80 seconds by American Tori Bowie.

Revamped schedule offers athletes alternatives

Big names including Usain Bolt, Ashton Eaton and Jenn Suhr have expressed their interest in competing in these events, which provides athletes a chance to preserve their body, rather than exert through the travel involved.
