Needing six wickets on the last day to complete their victory, India finished the task in the post-lunch session, to win their 500th Test and the first against New Zealand in this series, by 197 runs.

While Ravindra Jadeja was declared Man of the match for his contributions with the ball and the bat at crucial junctures of the game, Ravichandran Ashwin finished with match figures of 10 for 225.
