Czech Republic beats U.S.

In February, the focus shifted to team events in tennis as the Davis cup and Fed Cup ties took off. India routed Chinese Taipei for a 5-0 win in the Asia/Oceania Group I round one tie in the Davis cup thanks to the confident performances of Somdev Devvarman, Yuki Bhambri, Saketh Myneni and Rohan Bopanna. They next face South Korea in the second round to be held in April. Title holders Czech Republic meet Japan in the quarterfinals tie in the world group stage. Germany face off with France, Switzerland with Kazakhstan and Great Britain with Italy in the other quarterfinal matches.

India’s chances of advancing to Group I in the Asia/Oceania group in 2015 in the Fed Cup were dashed after they lost to Hong Kong. India earlier topped its pool in Group II after securing wins against Iran, Pakistan and New Zealand. Meanwhile, in the world group stage Italy saw off the U.S. 3-1 to progress to the semifinals in the Fed Cup where they will meet the Czech Republic. The other semifinal clash is between Germany and Australia.
