An incident-filled weekend in England was capped on Sunday by one of the most dramatic finishes to a Premier League game, with Liverpool beating Queens Park Rangers 3-2 thanks to an own goal in the fifth minute of injury time.

Another home win for Atletico Madrid kept the defending Spanish champions in touch with Barcelona in La Liga and Marseille continues to set a fierce pace in France.

Premier League

Liverpool profited from an own goal by Steven Caulker to snatch victory at last-placed QPR after a chaotic finale at Loftus Road.

Four goals were scored in a pulsating final eight minutes - the last unwittingly netted by Caulker, who turned the ball past his own goalkeeper to gift Liverpool a fortunate victory.

A madcap finale began in the 67th minute when QPR defender Richard Dunne put Liverpool 1-0 ahead with his record-extending 10th own goal in the Premier League.

Chile forward Eduardo Vargas equalised twice for QPR, first in the 87th minute with his first Premier League goal and again in the second minute of stoppage time with a header from a corner. That cancelled out a goal from Philippe Coutinho.

Liverpool’s second straight win lifted it up to fifth place and left QPR bottom on goal difference, increasing the pressure on its manager Harry Redknapp.

Stoke came from behind to beat Swansea 2-1 in the other game, with Jonathan Walters heading in a 76th-minute winner.

There were 28 goals in seven games in the Premier League on Saturday, including an 8-0 win for Southampton and a four-goal haul for Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero,

La Liga

Sevilla scored twice in the second half to win 2-0 at Elche and rise into second place in the Spanish league after Deportivo La Coruna beat Valencia 3-0 to hand the visitor its first defeat of the season.

Sevilla took control of a drab match with goals by Carlos Bacca and substitute Kevin Gameiro to move past third-place Real Madrid and Valencia and pull to within three points of leader Barcelona.

Atletico Madrid brushed aside Espanyol 2-0 to extend its unbeaten home streak in the league to 24 games and sit behind Valencia in fifth place on goal difference.

Serie A

Inter Milan came back twice to rescue a 2-2 draw at home to Napoli in Serie A on Sunday, while AC Milan climbed into fourth after securing a 3-1 victory at Hellas Verona thanks to a brace from Keisuke Honda.

The match at San Siro sparked into life late on when Jose Callejon capitalised on an error by Nemanja Vidic to break the deadlock but substitute Fredy Guarin levelled almost immediately.

Callejon thought he had scored the winner in the final minute but Hernanes equalised moments later.

The result should relieve a bit of the pressure on coach Walter Mazzari after back-to-back defeats.

Lazio survived strong Fiorentina pressure to come away with a 2-0 victory at the Stadio Artemio Franchi for its third consecutive Serie A win.

Ligue 1

Striker Andre-Pierre Gignac scored his 10th league goal in as many games as league leader Marseille beat Toulouse 2-0 to secure an eighth straight win and stay seven points ahead of bitter rival Paris Saint-Germain.

After centre half Nicolas Nkoulou put Marseille ahead in the 21st minute with an effort that appeared to come off the top of his shoulder, Gignac made it 11 in 11 for club and country when he finished off a fine one-touch passing move in the 36th.

New coach Marcelo Bielsa has transformed the club, which equalled its record for successive wins in front of 62,000 fans at Stade Velodrome - also setting a new club record for the highest attendance at home.

Bundesliga

Hamburger SV drew 1-1 with Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga on Sunday but was left to rue missed chances as it remained in the relegation zone.

Promoted Paderborn came from behind to beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1 in the late game.

Alexander Meier scored with Frankfurt’s first shot on goal in the 57th, converting Takashi Inui’s cross in off the right post.

Marvin Ducksch equalised two minutes after coming on as a substitute with a brilliant strike over the Frankfurt goalkeeper inside the far post in the 66th.

Paderborn captain Uwe Huenemeier made it 2-1 in the 79th and Stefan Kutschke, another substitute, rounded the goalkeeper to seal the result with five minutes to play.
