Tug-of-war over Ambedkar’s legacy
There has been a fight over B.R. Ambedkar’s legacy between the two mahot national parties – Congress and the BJP. The economist and political reformer who was better known as Babasaheb had worked and campaigned against social discrimination. Even as the Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi had last week signed an agreement to facilitate a memorial at the spot where Ambedkar’s last rites was performed, the Congress Party announced plans to hold year-long celebrations to observe the 125 birth anniversary of the great Dalit icon. Politics over Kashmiri Pandits
Almost 26 years back, militants of the Jammu and Kasmir Liberation Front (JKLF) killed more than 700 members of the Kashmiri Pandits community. This massacre led to mass exodus with the Kashmiri Pandits getting displaced from the Valley to various other places. There been talks about their return and rehabilitation for a long time now but none of the politicians have walked the talk. After the PDP joined hands with the BJP and formed the government in Jammu and Kashmir, much was expected out of them but there had different views on this issue. While Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed said that there will no separate clusters for the Kashmiri Pandits community, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said otherwise. Kashmiri Pandits community had said this week that they were saddened over the politics of their return and rehabilitation.
PM wants permanent UNSC seat for India
United Nations Security Council is one of the six main organs of the United Nations which may met when international peace and security is threatened. Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a pitch for a permanent UNSC seat for India when he was in Paris as part of his three-nation-tour to France, Germany and Canada. Modi said that India has the right to be in the UN Security Council and that the days of begging for it is gone. He observed that the country had made lot of sacrifices for world peace since World War I and even after the UN was founded. India has been the largest contributor to the peacekeeping forces around the world, he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal known how to hog the limelight for sure. In the online poll recently conducted by the Time magazine, both of them have been voted to be among the 100 most influential people in the world. Readers cast their votes online for personalities from politics, entertainment, business and various other fields. Russian President Vladimir Putin, rapper-singer CL, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Taylor Swift were few others who made it to the Top 100. The official list will be announced soon.
BSP to rally against land bill
The Bahujan Samaj Party which is an important regional party in Uttar Pradesh seem to be the latest to voice its opposition to the Land Bill. The party Supremo Mayawati announced that nation-wide agitations would be held against Centre’s policies starting from April 27. Mayawati opined that the Centre’s programmes are anti-people and in favour of capitalists. Scheduled to be started in the BSP headquarters in Lucknow, protests have been planned in various other states as well.
