    Varsity warns of building up of pest on cotton

    Chandigarh (PTI): Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) experts have expressed the possibility of population build up of various sucking insect-pests on cotton crop in the prevailing monsoon conditions.

    According to Dr. Hari Ram Rohilla, Head, Entomology Department of the university, if the relative humidity reaches 70 per cent and above and the average temperature ranges between 25 degrees and 30 degrees Celsius for next 2-3 weeks, the condition would be quite conducive for the population of insect-pests like white fly, leaf hopper and spotted boll warm.

    He said the population of another sucking pests like mealybug and thrips, active on cotton crop till last week, may come down if good rain hit the region.
