Synthetic rubber production falls 8 pc
New Delhi (PTI): The production of synthetic rubber, used mainly by tyre manufacturers, declined by about 8 per cent to 7,905 tonnes in August compared to the output in the same month last year.
However, the cumulative production of synthetic rubber in the April-August period rose to 41,344 tonnes from 41,318 tonnes in the five-month period last year, according to the Rubber Board data.
The August output of 7,905 tonnes is a tad short of production in the year-ago period at 8,570 tonnes, the Board said.
In line with its output, the consumption of synthetic rubber dipped to 24,310 tonnes in August from 24,480 tonnes a year ago.
However, domestic demand in the first five months of the fiscal rose by 5.2 per cent to 1,24,355 tonnes from 1,18,195 tonnes in the year-ago period.
Synthetic rubber is used mainly by tyre makers. Though Indian companies prefer natural to synthetic rubber, the latter is a huge hit with European firms.
