Kazakhstan invites investment in farm sector
Onboard Special Aircraft (PTI): An idea mooted by Kazakhstan during Vice-President Hamid Ansari's visit could see India make investment in agriculture sector in the central Asian state.
Ansari told reporters who accompanied him during the week-long visit that Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev told him that his hydrocarbon rich country would welcome investment in agriculture too.
"It is an idea which has to be explored," the Vice-President said.
To a question about its feasibility, Ansari remarked, "I am not an economist". Experts needed to look into the proposal, he suggested.
Ansari said India had achieved food security in the past but the scenario was now different.
He said Kazakhastan is ready for giving 10-year land lease which could be renewable. Earlier, it was giving a land lease for 49 years.
