Shillong (PTI): Self-styled Commander-in-Chief and a 'Sergeant Major' of Meghalaya-based militant group Liberation of Achik Elite Force (LAEF) were arrested.

Sengrang R Marak alias Charan alias Chukam Marak, the self-styled LAEF C-in-C were held yesterday near Byrnihat in Ri Bhoi district along Assam border.

Based on his disclosure, 'Sergeant Major' of the group Marjin R Marakwas was arrested from a market area in Shillong later.

Sengran was picked up while he was on his way to Shillong from Assam along with three other men to meet Marjin to arrange for arms and uniform for the outfit, police said.

Several documents were seized from the duo and the police said some more operations were being conducted based on their statements.

The LAEF, known to have nexus with Naga militant groups, is involved in extortion and kidnappings in the state.
