Metro history to be showcased at Patel Chowk museum

New Delhi (PTI): A museum tracing the history of Delhi Metro will soon be set up on one of its station premises, showcasing its origin and memorable moments during the construction of one of the most ambitious Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) of modern India.

"There are media reports over the construction of a heritage museum at Qutub Minar metro station. But it's not yet fully decided. Currently, we are making a metro museum at Patel Chowk station," Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) spokesperson Anuj Dayal said.

Highlighting that the Delhi Metro has completed 10 years since its construction which started on 1st October 1998, Dayal said, "The metro museum will house photographs, newspaper archives, models of the trains, curios, books and audio-visual films explaining the history of Delhi Metro."

When asked whether Delhi Metro will take any help from Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in its project, Dayal said, "All planning and construction are being handled by DMRC and ASI has nothing to do with the project."

Earlier, there were reports in the media claiming that DMRC is in consultation with the Archaeological Survey of India for the construction of the heritage museum at the Qutub Minar metro station. "That project is still in the pipeline," Dayal said.
