Power situation comfortable in West Bengal: CM

Kolkata (PTI): Refusing to comment on West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi, who is observing a voluntary powercut in Raj Bhavan, Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Friday claimed that the power situation in the state was comfortable.

"The power situation in the state is more or less comfortable. Sometimes we face some problem due to mechanical failure," Bhattacharjee told reporters here.

On the CPI(M) patriarch Jyoti Basu and CPI(M) state secretary Biman Bose criticising the governor, the chief minister said, "I will not comment on it. You can ask Jyoti Basu and Biman Bose about what they have said."

Asked whether he too was for abolition of the post of Governor as demanded by his state party secretary, Bhattacharjee skirted the question, saying the Centre has set up a commission to look into Centre-state relations. "After Sarkaria Commission, major issues are still to be addressed. When this Commission starts functioning, our party will submit a memorandum. You will come then to know what our stand on the issue is."

The governor has decided to observe voluntary powercut for two hours every day and said that Raj Bhavan need not be an exception to the city's electricity supply situation.
