50 railway stations to be developed as world-class ones
New Delhi (PTI) Focussing on upgradation of infrastructure, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday announced developing 50 world-class stations and 375 model stations with all basic amenities.
The 50 world-class stations will be developed through innovative financing and in public-private-partnership mode.
Some of these stations are CST Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Howrah and Sealdah, she said while presenting the Railway Budget 2009-10 in Parliament.
The 'adarsh' (model) stations will be developed with basic facilities such as drinking water, adequate toilets, catering services, waiting rooms and dormitories, especially for lady passengers.

"This year we are taking up 375 stations for inclusion as adarsh stations," Ms. Banerjee said.
Apart from this, within the stations, multi-functional complexes will be constructed for providing rail users facilities like shopping, food stalls and restaurants, book stalls, medicine and variety stores.
It is proposed to take up development of these complexes in different parts of the country at 50 railway stations serving places of pilgrimage, industry and tourist interest in this year.
Responsibility for development of these facilities will be entrusted to IRCON and Rail Land Development Authority.
