Chennai (PTI): AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa on Thursday named Union Communications Minister A Raja as the one who had spoken to a Judge of the Madras High Court in favour of an accused in a pending criminal case.

In a statement, she said the disclosure in the open court on June 29 by the Madras High Court judge Justice R.Raghupathy in an anticipatory bail case of a doctor and his son that a Union Minister had called him and sought to influence him to grant anticipatory bail was indeed shocking.

She claimed that the doctor hailed from Perambalur, which is also Mr Raja's native town and where the minister reportedly had his law office in a building owned by the doctor.

However, when contacted on Ms Jayalaliatha's statement Mr Raja said "I refuted the charges. They are politically motivated."

Outside Parliament when reporters asked him for his comments, he said "I didn't know, I didn't know."
