"I am opting out of the CM race," says Rane
Mumbai (PTI/IANS): Maharashtra Revenue Minister Narayan Rane, on Friday, announced that he is out from the race of the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
"I am opting out of the Chief Ministerial race," Rane said. He has accused Congress high command of reneging on promise to make him CM of the state.
"I don't trust even Sonia Gandhi anymore," Rane has said, reports PTI.
Although he said he was not quitting the Congress, Rane attacked outgoing Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and the likely successor Ashok Chavan at a hurriedly convened media briefing at his residence.
Commenting on Ashok Chavan, the front-runner in the CM race, Rane said, "He cannot handle even his ministry, he can't be my competitor for CM's post.
Rane said Deshmukh should have first owned moral responsibility for last week's Mumbai terror attacks and quit immediately.
He said that Deshmukh was "directly responsible" for the deaths of 172 innocents and hundreds injured in the terror attack.
Rane had joined the Congress in 2005 after quitting the Shiv Sena.
