BJP meet discusses crises in Orissa and Bihar
New Delhi (PTI): The crisis in Orissa and the Bihar floods dominated on Wednesday's core committee meeting of the BJP here which also discussed finalisation of the candidates' list in various states as part of chalking out its strategy for the forthcoming state and Lok Sabha polls.
"I am sending a fact-finding team under MP Vinay Katiyar to Orissa to find out the ground situation there. Some action has been taken by the state government to control the situation including ordering of a judicial inquiry and suspension of erring officials," BJP president Rajnath Singh told reporters.
Katiyar is in-charge of Orissa and is known as a staunch Hindutva ideologue.
Singh said the floods in Bihar were also discussed.
"Though the Bihar government is trying its best, the condition there is unimaginably bad. The Centre should render help on a war footing... see more is done than under normal circumstances. It should be done within 24 hours," Singh said.
Despite all these developments, the BJP has not lost sight of the forthcoming polls. The meeting decided that its election committee should meet on September 2 to discuss the candidates' list including Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Goa, Daman and Diu.
The party is likely to come out with the first list of UP candidates.
"We are also inviting the core election groups of our party state units from Punjab, Haryana, Assam, Jharkhand, Orissa and Maharashtra to Delhi on September 4, 5 and 6 to discuss the political situation in their states, poll preparedness and strategy," Singh said.
The Sankalp rallies of senior leader L K Advani were also discussed during the meeting. "These will be held in all the states and the state units have been alerted. The first rally will be held on September 25," Singh said.
On the crucial Amarnath agitation, Singh said the core committee felt that Centre should give "green signal" to the decision arrived at between the Jammu and Kashmir Governor's panel and the Sangarsh Samiti.
