  • Monsoon activity likely to pick up

New Delhi (PTI): The Monsoon activity is likely to pick up in many parts of the country next week, with the Met Department predicting rains along the west coast and over central and adjoining peninsular India.

The central and the adjoining peninsular India areas, particularly Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra are likely to receive rainfall next week, said the Met Department.

Monsoon activity is also likely to increase along the west coast and Gujarat with possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall, it said.

However, intensity of the ongoing Monsoon activity over foothills of the Himalayas and adjoining Gangetic plains and northeastern states is likely to decrease from Saturdayonwards.

The Met Department also added that thundershowers are likely over northwest India.

The weather prediction suggests southward shift of monsoon from tomorrow onwards, it said adding, that a low pressure area is likely to form over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal around July 27.

This development is considered as a signal for revival of monsoon along the west coast and over central and adjoining peninsular India, the Met office said.
