Bidding adieu

A programme was organised to felicitate two singers and bid farewell to a stalwart.

Ghantasala Samsmarana Kalapeetham of Machilipatnam, presenting its Puraskarams given in memory of Ghantasala and Arudra by Pinnamaneni Sree Ramdas of Nizamabad and Ghantasala KV. Mahadevan by Billakurthi Satyanarayana Reddy of Nagulapuram, organised a Sangeetha Vibhavari at Kalabharathi.

Noted singers M. Peter Mastaaru and M. Sasi Rani of Visakhapatnam, who mainly sang in the Sangeetha Vibhavari, were chosen for the awards. It was also organised to bid farewell to noted keyboard teacher, player and composer V. Seetharamaiah, working as superintendent, Central Excise and Service Tax, who is very likely to go away from Visakhapatnam. He had the honour of being requested to plan and present the Vibhavari.

Peter Mastaaru and Sasi Ravi alternately sang buoyantly, sustaining an ebullient mood in the auditorium. The highlights were Siva Siva Siva Anarada of Devulapalli, Thenegaaninuvalachi of Boyi Bheemanna, and Naa Premageetham of Neelutla of Venkateswara Rao by Sasi Rani. Peter, singing Vellu poola paanpupai of Devulapalli, Neelala Neekallu of Indrakanti Sreekantha Sarma, and Maadhuri Rasaanandajhari of Theerdhala Kamalakar Rao besides some haunting melodies of Ghantasala, enthralled everybody in the hall.

Seetharamaiah expertly conducted the orchestra, constituted of himself on the keyboard, Srinivasa Rao on another board, V. Malleswara Rao on flute, G. Babjee on pads, A. Anand and S. Chakrapani Raju on tabla, and A. Rangajee playing rhythms. The compering by Suhasini Anand and sound by Sanni and company were pleasing.
