Their large-hearted gesture made their impairment seem trivial. The visually-challenged artists of Chennai-based music troupe Raaga Priya gave an impressive performance at Mahati auditorium in Tirupati last Tuesday that was received well by the audience.
The event was conducted by Amway Opportunity Foundation (AOF), supported by its employees and distributors, to raise funds for extending relief and rehabilitation work in the flood-ravaged Kurnool district.
The artistes of Raaga Priya, who have a Guinness world record in their kitty, had made a brief appearance in a crucial song in the Tamil film Autograph' ( Naa Autograph in Telugu), that catapulted it to success. The twenty artistes, all of them visually challenged, gave a scintillating live concert. Music director and troupe leader M.C. Comagan conducted the event.
Giving Raaga Priya' a chance to perform was part of AOF's long-term plan to provide continuous patronage to the visually challenged, both to lend an opportunity to exhibit their hidden talent as well as help them eke out a livelihood.
The foundation had recently conducted a musical evening by the same troupe in Visakhapatnam and the funds raised through sale of tickets were utilised to procure Braille educational material for the Helen Keller School for the Blind at Vizag.
Bhavani Aytha, member of AOF's Andhra Pradesh unit, announced that the proceeds from the sale of tickets would go towards undertaking flood relief operations in Kurnool district.
Member of Parliament Chinta Mohan, Superintendent of Police (administration) R.N. Ammi Reddy and Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Tirupati P. Mohan Reddy were among the participants for the evening.
