Renowned Carnatic vocalist Vidushi K. Vrinda Acharya will be conducting a music workshop on “Rare Dasarapadagalu” July 11 and 12, 18 and 19 between 3 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. The workshop will be held at the Sri Lake View Mahaganapathy Temple, Dhyana Mandir, Tank Road, Ulsoor. As part of the ongoing Thalavadyotsav – 2009, the 28th annual percussive arts festival and music conference organised by the Percussive Arts Centre and Bangalore Gayana Samaja, at the Samaja premises on K.R. Road, today at 5.45 p.m. there will be a lecture “Music technology & recording arts” by Sigmund Rothschild (USA), followed by a concert at 6.45 p.m. featuring A.K.C. Natarajan (clarionet), M.S. Govindaswamy (violin), A.R. Munirathnam (thavil), B.C. Manjunath (mridanga). On Saturday, at 5 p.m. there is a lecture “Arithmetics in Carnatic music” by B.M. Sundaram, followed by Greeshma Vaibhava’, a special percussion concert by women artists, directed by H.S. Anasuya Kulkarni at 5.45 p.m. At 6.45 p.m., there is a concert by S.Sowmya (vocal), Charulatha Ramanujam (violin), V. Krishna (mridanga), S. Srishyla (ghata). On Sunday, starting 9.45 a.m., the Palghat Mani Iyer Memorial Award will be conferred on A.R. Munirathnam; Palani Subramanya Pillai Memorial Award to Mysore S. Mahadevappa; Bangalore K. Venkataram Memorial Award to B.M. Sundaram; H. Puttachar Memorial Award to S. Srishyla; PAC- CMANA Prize to S.G. Pramath Kiran; and G.S. Sriram Memorial Prize.

The Sri Parthasarathy Swamy Sabha is organising a Tamil comedy play “Vietnam Veedu” by Y.Gee Mahendra on July 12 at the Chowdiah Memorial Hall at 7 p.m. in aid of Swaramurthy V.N. Rao Memorial Trust.
