Mridangam vidwan to be felicitated
Mrudanga Chakravarthy Dr. T. K. Murthy School of Music and Trust has organised a special event on July 9, 4 p.m., at The Music Academy, to celebrate the mridangam vidwan’s completion of 75 years in the field of Carnatic music.
The platinum jubilee celebrations will be presided over by N. Murali, MD, The Hindu, and president, The Music Academy. He will release a DVD of Mohra/Korvai of 108 Talas conceived by Shri Murthy. The chief guest Ustad Zakir Hussain will receive the first copy of the DVD and felicitate the maestro. Ghatam exponent Vikku Vinayakram will launch a website on Dr. Murthy, designed by Rithvik Raja.
On the occasion, a Laya Vinyasam will be presented featuring Murthy on the mridangam, Ustad Zakir Hussain on the tabla, Vikku Vinayakram on the ghatam, Sivamani on special drums, V. Selvaganesh on the ganjira and B. Sivaraman also on the mridangam.
Besides, various artists will share their experiences of working with Murthy.
