Battle lines have been drawn as Vijay TV gears up for Airtel Super Singer Junior 2. After Coimbatore and Tiruchi, auditions will be held in Chennai on July 4 at Mayor Sri Ramanathan Chettiar Hall, Santhome.

Already 15 contestants have been short-listed from Coimbatore and Tiruchi each.

This year, the show promises more entertainment and provides another chance for children in the 6-14 age group to showcase their singing talent. The prize money is Rs.25 lakhs.

Children can audition till July 3 at any of the video booths at the following outlets in Chennai — Airtel Office, Silver Line, Old No.21, New No.1, MG Road, Opp. Adyar Anandha Bhavan, New Adyar Depot; UniverCell Showroom, No. AC-12, 12th Avenue, Anna Nagar Main Road, Opp. Saravana Bhavan Blue Star, Anna Nagar East; Abirami Mega Mall, No. 152, Purasawalkam High Road; Spencer’s Daily, No. 25 G.N. Chetty Road, T. Nagar; Chennai Citi Centre, 10-11, Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai, Mylapore.

Children can also utilise the Super Singer Junior van which will travel across the city till July 3. They can register at the venue (first-cum-first-served basis) by bringing along the proof of age (birth certificate, ration card, etc.,)

Spot registration opens at 8 a.m. on July 4. A parent or legal guardian must accompany the participant.

Manmanam

(Makkal TV, Saturdays, 2 p.m.)

A village a week… that’s what ‘Manmanam’ is all about. This programme showcases the different folk arts of Tamil Nadu such as Thappaattam, Karagaattam, Oyilaattam and Mayilaattam.

Besides, traditional games played in the fields are also discussed. The villagers narrate interesting tales and their local legacies, to add that native flavour.

Russian film

(Makkal TV, Sunday, 2 p.m.)

Makkal TV screens Andrei Tarkovsky’s ‘The Passion According to Andrei Rublev’. This 1966 film with the screenplay by Andrei Konchalovsky and Andrei Tarkovsky, is based on the life of Andrei Rublev, the great 15th century Russian painter.

Thaen Kinnam Special



Thaen Kinnam Special: Jaya TV, Monday, 9.30 a.m.

The special edition of ‘Thaen Kinnam’ to be telecast on July 6 will be hosted by the popular yesteryear playback singer, P. Suseela.

This time, the weekly show that includes rare, lilting movie music of the past, will have P. Suseela presenting her choice numbers, singing them for listeners and explaining the reasons for her pick. A never-to-be-missed segment indeed!

Padi Maathi Padi

(Jaya Plus, Saturdays, 12 Noon)

Prospects that courses taken up after Plus Two promise, higher level qualifications and preferable job opportunities will be detailed in a new show to be beamed on Jaya Plus every Saturday, beginning July 4.

The one-hour programme will highlight the courses that have been introduced this academic year.

Heads of colleges are to participate and offer useful information to viewers, besides clarifying doubts of callers in this regard. Check it out!
