Special puja

On account of the New Year, there will be a special Dhanvantri homam performed on January 1, at Chennai Om Sri Skandasramam, 1, Kambar Street, Mahalakshmi Nagar, Selaiyur, East Tambaram. The day starts with ‘Go’ puja at 7.30 a.m. followed by homa sankalpam at 9 a.m. Ganapathy and Navagraha Homam at 9.30 a.m. will be followed by Moola Mantra Homam at 10.30 a.m. Purnahuthi will be at 7.30 p.m. followed by abhishekam to Sri Chakra Purna Maha Meru at 8 p.m.

Hayagreeva homam

Abhinava Vageesha Brahmatantra Swatantra Parakala Mahadesikan with the presiding deity Lord Lakshmi Hayagreeva, is visiting Sri Ahobila Math Oriental Higher Secondary School, 117, K.R. Koil Street, West Mambalam, Chennai 33.

Tirumanjam to all deities will be performed on December 27and Hayagreeva Homam will be held on December 28 at the School premises, by the Parakala Math Swami, at 8 a.m. on both days.

Grand aural treat

Papanasam Sivan Karnataka Sangeetha Sabha, (Ph: 22583330; 22582621) will celebrate its 19th Grand Music Festival from January 2, 2009 – Jan13. The inauguration will be held on January 2, 6 p.m., at Sree Sath Sanga Ramanujar Hall, Sath Sangam Street, Madipakkam. Nalli Kuppusamy Chetti presides, G.Srinivasan, CMD, United India Insurance Company, inaugurates and presents the Papanasam Sivan Award and citation to Anaiyampatti Ganesan.

Hyderabad Sisters open the concert scene on Jan.3, followed by Sangeetha Swaminathan (Jan.4), Carnatica Brothers (Jan.5), P. Unnikrishnan (Jan.6), Mandolin U. Shrinivas (Jan.7), M.K. Shankaran Namboodri (Jan. 8), Trichur Brothers (Jan. 9), Sriram Parasuram & Anuradha Sriram (Jan.10), Flute Shashank (Jan.11) and Chinmaya Sisters (Jan. 13). Udayalur Kalyanaraman presents namasankeertanam on Jan.12. The above mentioned concerts will begin at 6.30 p.m. on all the days.

CD release

The TNSCARD Bank Anjaneya Swamy Trust is releasing ‘Jai Hanuman,’ a CD of devotional songs, on December 27, at Sri Anjaneya Temple, 181-183, TNSCARD Bank, Luz Church Road, Mylapore.

The music has been composed by Ramesh Vinayakam.

The CD will be released by Karaikudi Mani and the first copy will be received by Krishnamachari Srikkanth. A special review will be presented by ‘Crazy’ Mohan. The event will be presided over by R. Natraj, IPS.

Music festival

Maithri Vidhya Kendram is organising its fourth music festival from today till December 28 at A.K.R. Mahal, Kaliamman Koil Street, Virugambakkam. At the inaugural this evening at 5 p.m., vidwan K.R. Ganesh will conferred the title Nada Kala Nipuna.
