TV HIGHLIGHTS: THE WEEK AHEAD

HINDI

Return of Hanuman on Sony Max, Sunday, 12 noon.

Mughal-e-Azam

(9X, Sunday, 4 p.m.)

‘Mughal-e-Azam’ is the love story between a commoner Anarkali (Madhubala) and Prince Salim (Dilip Kumar), the heir apparent. When his father Emperor Akbar (Prithviraj Kapoor) finds out, he is furious and does his best to thwart the romance. Salim, however, is adamant and rebelliously leads an army against his father. He is defeated in battle and brought before Akbar who sentences him to death. Anarkali agrees to sacrifice her life for Salim to be spared and after spending the night with him is taken to be entombed alive in a brick wall.

Return of Hanuman

(Sony Max, Sunday, 12 noon)

While ‘Hanuman’ was a pure mythological film, ‘Return of Hanuman’ merges mythology with the present day world.

In this film, there’s Gabbar Singh, plus voice-over clones of Shah Rukh Khan, Sanjeev Kumar and Raj Kumar. The film begins with the battle between the gods and rakshas.

The focus shifts to a small kid, Minku, in a village in present-day India, who’s ridiculed by friends. Lord Hanuman requests Narad Muni to convince Lord Brahma to send him to earth.

Lord Brahma agrees, but Lord Hanuman is made to sign a contract, which has several dos and don’ts.

If you’re a kid, or have a kid hidden in you, this one’s for you.
