COMEDY TIME Hero No. 1

Govinda signs up with Jag Mundra

After Partner, Govinda seems to have turned the clock back by a decade and is as much in demand as he was in the Hero No. 1 days. The latest is that he is doing a film with Jag Mundra.

The director who has made serious, issue-based films such as Provoked, Bawandar and Kamala, is trying to make people laugh now.

Jag Mundra says, “I have made issue-based films and erotic films. Now I want to test myself as a filmmaker by making films in genres, which I haven’t attempted before. I am going to make a comedy with Govinda with Shrishti production. It’s a very light-hearted comedy, a typical Govinda film.”

Ask the director if he is making a comedy because it’s the safest box office genre these days, and the bearded director divulges how the film fell into his lap. “Govinda and I met when he was shooting for Bhaagam Bhag in London. I have always liked him as an actor. We were discussing some scripts and he liked my clarity of vision. So when Anuj Sharma (Anil Sharma’s brother), the MD of Shrishti communication approached Govinda, he recommended my name as director. I felt privileged that he had so much faith in me. The project is initiated by Govinda himself.”

Mundhra reveals: “The film is in its pre-production stage. There will be one foreign actress and an Indian actress too, probably Amrita Rao.”
