MARQUEE MOVES

Deepshikha does a Shobhaa De

The social circuit continues to draw attention in films much after Madhur Bhandarkar’s Page 3. Television actress Deepshikha will be seen in a role inspired by Shobhaa De in the film Bhram, made by media bigwig Nari Hira. Deepshikha is a Page 3 journalist on the lookout for controversies and thrives on gossip. Dressed in silks and chiffons and sporting junk jewellery like Shobhaa De, she is out to tarnish the image of investment banker Milind Soman.

Ajay Devgan as Emperor Ashoka

Here’s yet another magnum opus being planned by Rajkumar Santhoshi. The director has announced a film based on the life and times of emperor Ashoka and has signed Ajay Devgan and Bipasha Basu for the lead roles. Never mind if Shah Rukh Khan already featured in Santosh Sivan’s Asoka a few years ago, Santhoshi says his film will not focus on the romantic aspects of Ashoka’s life. One wonders, where Bipasha Basu fits in then?

Rozza makes her debut

Remember Rozza Catalano? The Italian who instantly got noticed while she was dating Saif Ali Khan has of late been scouting for film and modelling opportunities in Mumbai. She will be making her debut in the forthcoming film Shaurya. The film has Rahul Bose and Javed Jaffrey as Army lawyers and friends. Shaurya traces the life of an army officer (Deepak Dobriyal) who is charged with treason and punished for the alleged murder of a fellow officer. Kay Kay Menon has a significant role, Minishha Lamba and Seema Biswas are also part of this film. Directed by Samar Khan, the film has music by Adnan Sami.

Shilpa’s ‘unauthorised’ biography

There are biographies and biographies of late, particularly on film personalities. The latest one to hit book shelves, abroad, is that of Shilpa Shetty written by Julie Aspinall. But strangely, this is said to be an unauthorised version with the author not having spoken to Shilpa Shetty. Nevertheless, the book is flying off shelves thanks to Shilpa’s popularity after Big Brother.
