Compendium of songs

Annamayya’s compositions were presented in yakshagana format.

Many vocalists and dancers have hitherto presented a selection of Annamayya’s compositions. But Uma Rama Rao of Lasyapriya thought it otherwise and wanted to mark the Annamacharya’s 600th Jayanthi with 108 kirtanas div iding them into groups, based on the content of the lyrics.

The TTD, Annamacharya Project and State Department of Culture organised this show at Ravindra Bharati. The first set was a compendium of 36 songs.

The style she used was yakshagana and show was. titled Alamelumanga Mangalya Leela-Sringara Hela.

Madhavimala as Alamelumanga and Srilekha as Lord Venkateswara figured in the Yakshagana.

The thematic content involved Alamelumanga’s love at the very first sight of Lord Venkateswara and their marriage. The songs were written by Annamayya as he visualised all these different phases dominated by Sringara. Suguna, younger sister of Uma appeared in the role of Annamayya.

Ragasudha Vinjamuri, Soujanya Kiran, Madhavi, Malavika, Anahita, Sindhura and Charvee played the maids of Alamelumanga and presented the dances with good co-ordination.
