Tickling the funny bone

M. L. NARASIMHAM

Using cinematic nostalgia for the business of hilarity.

ShakShaking a leg Venu Madhav and Srihari surrounded by dancers for the comic caper.

The Hungama hero has turned a producer with Premabhishekam-veediki cancer ledu . The shooting is on for a song sequence on hero Venumadhav, heroines Ruthika and newcomer Priya Mohan. Of course there are group da ncers. In one of those simple but elegantly done up sets, choreographer Ashok Raj takes over the mantle from director Gandhi.

As one watches on the monitor , one is amused by the way the comedy hero dances along with the heroines taking his job seriously at the same time dancing like a prankster that he is on and off the screen. During the break one can find him lightening the atmosphere with banter. But the dance director is not amused. He asks the hero to mind his steps. Venu this time takes his job in all seriousness. The take is okayed amidst peals of laughter on the sets as the choreographer too wanted that particular step to look more funny. The song neeku naaku linkayyindhi tuned by Chakri is still being played on the nagra while the unit takes a brief tea break. V. Srinivasa Reddy’s camera whirrs to a stop.

A unit hand hands over the casting and technicians list. It has an impressive star cast including Srihari and Nagababu and of course you name any comedian from Telugu screen they are all in it. The concept or moola katha as it is titled is given by Dasari Narayana Rao who made that immortal classic Premabhishekam with his favourite actor A. Nageswara Rao. And this one is a comic caper! Venumadhav is remixing the popular song taking the pallavi and changing the rest of the lyric.

The shoot restarts. The actors unwind before the camera. They go for another take of the same bit that they had earlier done. Someone quips : now that Venumadhav has turned a producer he will know the problems a producer faces. But the actor need not worry about the hassles. His brothers Gopalakrishna and Trivikram are taking care of the production affairs as is evident on location. During the break, Venumadhav says he is an ardent fan of actress Savitri.

Venu Madhav surrounded by the brides.

A journo has asked him though there is nothing much in common in their story lines, first it was Bhookailas an old title of a NTR title and now Premabhishekam and what next.

Pat come the reply from the comedy hero, Sagara Sangamam with a tag line Veediki Dance Radhu, leaves one in splits. He then left to obey the commands of the choreographer creating more hilarity for the unit members into more splits. Enjoy this non-stop entertainer in a few weeks from now at your favourite theatres.
