Harikatha exponent remembered
Ammula Viswanadham.
The 17th death anniversary of Harikatha exponent Ammula Viswanadham Bhagavatar was observed by his disciples and family members at Sri Sivaramakrishna Kshetram.
Viswanadham Bhagavatar was very popular not only in the State but also in many parts of the country. His Harikadha kalakshepams were chastely rendered in traditional manner and he had innumerable admirers. His Kadhaganams were marked with scholarship.
Ammula had a great stage presence. The programme started with an enlightening and erudite harikatha ganam by Chirra Bramhananda Reddy Bhagavathar.
The function was inaugurated by Putta Jaganmohana Rao, a patron of arts.
The chief guests were Natyavadhanam exponent Dhara Ramanadha Sastri and Mangalagiri Aditya Prasad, Station Director of Akashvani. Another invitee was veteran musician Komanduri Seshadri.This year, the cash award instituted in memory of the late Bhagavathar was given to Vinnakota Ramakumari Bhagavatharini.
Impressive concert
Challa Prabhavathi’s violin solo concert arranged by Sidhardha Kalapeetham at Mummaneni Subba Rao Sidhardha Kalakshetram was one of the few music concerts the Kalapeetham conducts.
Prabhavathi is the head of the department of Violin in the S.V. Music College, Tirupathi. She is violinist of vast experience and scholarship. She started impressively with Vatapi Ganapathim Bhajeham in Hamsadhvaniand followed it with Enadaro Mahanubhavulu, the popular pancharatna keertana of Thyagaraja. Prabhavathi’s bowing was smooth and melodious. After the Pancharatna keertana Prabhavathi played mostly Annamacharya Keertanas. She received fine support from K. Sai Giridhar on the mridangam and veteran percussion artiste and senior vidwan Alugolu Satyanarayana on Ghatam.
